March 1, 2015

Today is the day I've given my everything on the table of sacrifice. Today I commit myself to give up my HEART, MIGHT, MIND, AND STRENGTH to the Lord - I'm giving all of it to him
so that one day I will be able to be the father that the Lord needs me to be. That is my biggest goal, learn to know Christ so that I can become his disciple, to become a man of God, to be worthy to be a father in this dispensation.  By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.  I know that I am small and weak but through the Lord's hands I can become so much more and that through him I can become a tool to be led and guided to many great and marvelous works!!

p.s. Don't lose sleep over me.  I'm doing just fine and dandy.  I love your guts !!!!

Love,
Your little boy

The lord will always provide a way for us! In Mosiah Alma told his people have faith and the Lord will deliver us. When we put our faith in Christ he will always provide a way. When Christ's apostles found out that Christ would no longer be guiding them the were concerned and felt inadequate to lead his church, but he provided them the way, the spirit. " Ask in my name having faith and ye shall receive" but because he gave them this gift they had to do their part. "Ask and ye receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you".

They had to ask for the spirit first, secondly they had to COME TO KNOW CHRIST (or act )  through the spirit in order to receive the spirit, then they were told to do two things first, love one another as I have loved you. Christ showed his apostles his love by washing their feet.  In their culture the washing of the feet was the highest sign of respect and love for one anther, Christ the master washing their feet was a witness of his love and friendship towards them. (Now the fun part ) they had to ACT and share that same amount of love with everyone around them "love thy neighbor as thyself."  Secondly they were asked to keep the commandments. They were then given the promise that as they did these things the Lord would be with them. "For I the Lord am bound when ye do what I say but when ye do not what I say ye have no promise! I know that as we come to know Christ he will always provide us the way, I know that as we do these things we will be blessed with 1. the spirit to always lead and guide us 2. Christlike love and 3. a greater relationship with the son Jesus Christ and as you develop a relationship through Christ you gain a relationship with our Heavenly Father!  I testify that as we follow these steps and ask act and obey we will begin to truly understand God's love and plan for us in our own lives as well as his love for all those around us.

Hey president,

Tthis week has been very unique. I have really been pondering on what I can do to become a consecrated missionary and eventually become the man that God wants me to be.  I found that the main thing I can do is work, work on every aspect of becoming Christ like and just flat out work, my family's saying has always been "there's nothing without work" and Ive really been considering this in my life and how it applies, I'm so grateful for my trainer and his love for work and the people we work with.  He  has been an amazing example to me of what the word dedicated means, he truly puts all his heart into everything he does.

Thanks for everything you do and your amazing example to me and all your wisdom I will truly work on becoming wise
Love,

Friday night me and my companion fell asleep around ten o'clock.  He has a really bad back so it's pretty rough at night.  All of a sudden he heard a loud noise and woke up. He laid in bed for a while thinking how hard it was gonna be to go back to sleep then all of a sudden he had the impression to look out the window. Outside our apartment was a man in a black hoodie. My companion whispered elder Henrie and immediately I woke up and said what....... as you know that never happens ...... long story short he was trying to rob us and we called the cops..... but I know that it was because of Great Grandma Torrie that me and my companion we watched out for that night :) that was one of many miracles that happened this week -  your turn!

Homeless people are really funny when they're drunk.
This last Thursday me and my companion were teaching a Mexican when all of a sudden I see this man running towards me..... He gets up to me and just hugs me (probably the hardest hug I've had all my life).  He then starts blubbering 'I love you man God bless you.  I love you so much. You're a miracle.  God bless you. Then he just starts sobbing by this time I knew he was wasted; you could smell the alcohol very strong, so I let my companion take care of the Mexican since he's fluent and focused on the homeless man. First, I told him to talk to me and tell me what he was looking for. He told me about how he wanted to change his life and stop drinking, so I did what any reasonable missionary would do and told him to promise me three simple things.
1.  Don't touch another beer
2.  Don't touch any more drugs ( his beard was melted from smoking so much)
3.  Do exactly everything the English elders told him to do.
He promised me he would do them then went on hugging me more and telling me how special I was and how we change the world, he then looked deeply into my eyes like he was reading my soul.. and said " your eyes they're so different? I'M NEVER GONNA FORGET YOU ! .. I don't know how true those words were because he was drunk but hey I tried right :)

This week was a little bit longer than normal.  It seemed like no matter what way we contacted, nobody wanted anything to do with us. On the bright side Mario is super prepared for his baptism and even brought his father (who stated he didn't want anything to do with church) to church with him and his mom. We are getting him all signed up in scouting and had a really good lesson with him on the law of chastity and he was really curious about a mission so that was awesome. Our investigator Christina kinda dogged us this week and went and spent the week with her boyfriend so we don't really know what's going on with her. On the other hand, Christina Martinez's daughter got super excited about learning the gospel so were starting to teach her. I have a strong belief that she will get baptized. My trainer is amazing and I love him to death.  He has so many qualities that I desire to gain and work for each day. He loves the work and all the people who surround him. He has been have trouble sleeping at night because he hurt his back a few months ago so I'm kinda worried about that. We may be calling you within the next couple days...
I'm doing great i love every day here in Denver Harbor even if it is rough were pushing through.

Thanks for all you do and the blessing you are to all of us

Dear president,

This week was very successful for me. Missionary training taught me so many valuable lessons to include in my life to become the fourth missionary. Mario is coming along very smoothly towards baptism and our relationship with him has grown immensely this past week. Hopefully after his baptism his father will soften his heart and open up to the gospel. Christina is doing wonderful we have watched the light of Christ enter fully into her life and can tell its given her strength to push through her pregnancy and family problems. Elder Anderson is the best and I could not have asked for a better trainer.  He does everything perfectly for my learning capability and is an amazing example of love and selflessness.  It's also his birthday today and he still serves others around him. He takes his calling as district leader above and beyond the requirements. I love my area and helping the people in it.  You can tell they are searching for light in there lives some of them just aren't ready to accept it.
Thanks for all you do.
 Sincerely,

Elder Henrie

OK first off i suggest all of you read the Fourth Missionary by Todd Mcallister and apply it to your lives.  It's by far one of the greatest talk I've read.

This week went very well and very interesting. There's an hermana in our ward who asked if she could receive a blessing because she's had a lot of pain in her back lately so we went over there to give her a blessing and lesson on the priesthood after that her 28 year old son came in and listened and asked us for a blessing. We then continued teaching him about priesthood blessing and the priesthood. He asked us if we could give him a blessing and we asked him what he desired at that time. He then told us his whole life story about how he has tried to kill himself four times and it doesn't work.  He says hes seen evil spirits and it scares him he said he doesn't want to live here anymore cause he's seen the other side and it's wonderful but he's also seen the dark side and it scares him. He also went off about how he's mad at God for the trials and tribulations God has placed in his life. It was definitely a very very very spiritual talk and I ended up giving him a very powerful blessing.
We had an investigator come to church for the first time this Sunday and we haven't even taught him the lessons yet so that was really neat.  Mario is doing great!

I love you all -  don't let them praying knees get lazy and love like crazy

This week was unique.  Elder Anderson and I both caught the cold so it's been rough as far as breathing goes, but hey the work still goes on and we have some amazing hermanas in the district who make some great ramen noodles and cookies. haha. So, Christina's baptism went incredible she is going to be a faithful member for eternity and I think she's going to be the next relief society pres. I got the opportunity to introduce the first vision at her baptism in front around 50 people in Spanish so that was incredible and a blessing. We started this trend in the mission called spoken pedal. Every Wednesday all the missionaries in the mission ride their bikes, which is normal for me cause I'm in a bike area, but for some reason this particular day dogs really didn't like me. I got bit by a Rottweiler ( don't worry I'm not hurt) and peed on by the same dog three times ha ha so that was a fun day. Other than that this week was pretty normal - lots of lessons with nobody committing.  I love you all.  Here's my letter to pres and some more pictures.

Remember - don't let them praying knees get lazy and love like crazy

1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in Love; but perfect Love casteth out fear." love

Dear president,
This week was incredible. First off, thank you for your advice during our interview. I'm excited to learn and grow to be able to do the Lord's work and help be part of the solution and THE mission. During training I received tons of revelation for myself and my investigators. Spoken pedal was successful. I got bit by a dog so that's exciting ha ha no worries I'm fine but I will need some new pants. The baptism for Christina was amazing. I'm so glad I got to be a part of her conversion and her life. There's nothing I'd rather be doing right now than this work. One miracle that happened this week was I accomplished my goal. I set a goal that I would give someone a baptismal date before new missionary training. Mario confirmed his date to be baptized on February 15 and is very excited. His  mom was baptized really young in life and decided that she needed to come back for her family so we've been working with Mario and hope to work with the father this week.
Thanks for all you do and for the example you are.
much love ELDER HENRIE

This week we had a lesson with a boy named Mari.   His mother is a recent convert and he is 17 years old. Me and my companion decided the we wanted him to relate to the scriptures because we knew the only way he would pray and know what were saying was true was if he read the Book of Mormon, so we taught about putting on the whole armor of god and it really seemed to click for him. Today we are going to teach the importance of reading the Book of Mormon and how to build faith -like a muscle you have to work it. I've got my first baptism this week with Christina so that's exciting! I'll try and have my comp take pics.  I love you all.

Don't let those praying knees get lazy and love like crazy.

The defining characteristic of love is dedication.
